This week I thought I would let you all in on a little secret Mrs H and I discovered during our latest portrait shoot. Light not only illuminates but adds substance, texture and depth.
I posed in the early morning light for this shot, but the colours seemed to merge into the background, and all looking a bit overexposed. But when Mrs H tuned into the black and white image........
........things seemed to change.......
....... suddenly the light became a shower of particles—threads of spider silk if you will—frozen in their tracks as they raced past me into the foreground, whilst simultaneously highlighting and defining my face, whiskers and the most delicate hairs along my back.....
This last image is my favourite and encompasses the best qualities—well for me at least—of light and dark, and the motion and stillness of both light and subject . . . . Mrs H also says that we captured intent, and joy, too. Of course, these light and dark things are not new, but sometimes I find there is a moment in time when the obvious, which we have forgotten about, springs to the fore and shines.
Do tell us what you think of the images—which you prefer, and more importantly, what is your favourite technique for capturing striking images. . . . .

Erin, me thinks you looks loverly in black and white - the light beams show your wonderful loving soul. So glad to see you today! -Purrz from Katie the Mom (yes we are blogging again at KFM Newz dot blogspot dot com.
ReplyDeleteGreat to see you back, and with such a lovely new page, too. Many thanks, we like the last best, but the close up shows such interesting aspects:)

We find closeups a challenge and never get them sharp enough. We love your picture in black and white.
ReplyDeleteThank you. Mrs H's cameraoft' doesn't focus n close ups or if the light is wrong.

Those are lovely, Erin. We do have a slight preference for the first one.
ReplyDeletePurrs,

We love your photo, Erin. The black and white version is especially dramatic. :)

I like the smaller black and white version, Erin...it really highlights you, with less background. I take elebenty billion images, then discard the ones that are blurry or weird. Probably 2 good images for 10 taken.
ReplyDeleteAhh, yes, we kno that feeling. It is fun deciding between them all though, which is why we switch to B&W a lot as it can bring out the best, or better, in a picture.

Erin, those B&W pictures are wonderful !
ReplyDeleteThank you, we have a soft spot for B & W, ;)

The light shines on you like it was from heaven, Erin. Very nice.
ReplyDeleteThanks, it was such a nice shot, and sort of better reflects the feeling of the moment than many others.

ReplyDeleteAww, thanks, thatis a lovely thing to say. We do have our moments though. . . .well Mrs H does more than me ;)

They are all lovely, but I like the black and white close up best.
ReplyDeleteThanks. Yes I can see why, and it was a hard choice for me between the last two, for sure.

ERin
We like the last one. The light and shade really works well :)
ReplyDeleteThank you. Yes I think the harmony is a bit better in that one as it is bigger.

You look fabulous in black and white, Erin ! Purrs
ReplyDeleteThanks. It does rather suit, though if the natural colour and light is there, I can radiate colour like the best of them :)

I know pros might say #2, but I prefer the color. I think it's more striking even though the colors are muted. ERin, we bet you are an extraordinary muse for Mrs. H!
ReplyDeleteThank you. The colour has it's pluses and is muted which may be one of its charms. Hmmm, muse isn't always the word Mrs H chooses, but I am extraordinary. . . . well between naps at least, MOL
